Vail Snowmobiling Tours with Nova Guides
For the best winter fun check out Vail Snowmobiling Tours with Nova Guides! Nova Guides is Vail Valley’s one-stop shop for everything outdoors.
Offering a wide array of activities in both summer and winter seasons, Nova Guides is considered Vail’s go-to place for everything that's fun outdoors. Specializing in Vail Snowmobiling tours and snowcoach tours in the winter, Nova Guides offer guided tours and unguided rentals, utilizing the largest commercial trail system in Colorado.
A distinguishing characteristic of Nova Guides main base camp is its unique location just 15 miles south of Vail in the heart of historic Camp Hale, a former WWII military training grounds.
Camp Hale was once home to over 15,000 troops that comprised the famed 10th Mountain Division. These ‘ski troopers’ used the adjacent mountains for ski, ice-climbing, and winter survival skills training in the early 1940’s before deployment to the Italian Alps.
Many of the troops returned to Colorado after the war and, as visionaries, they design-developed a number of the ski areas we are familiar with today, including Vail Mountain.
In addition to the great historical narratives imparted by their informed staff, Nova Guides does an excellent job conveying all of the pertinent geographical features in a friendly and informative manor.
Top of the Rockies Tours
Join Nova for a guided Vail snowmobiling tour or a scenic snowcoach tour (transportation to and from your lodging included) and explore remnants of the former military base while traversing the very same trails once utilized by the elite 10th Mtn. Division.
On a clear day, their guides can take you above tree line to elevations exceeding 12,500 feet and with unobstructed 360 degree views of four major mountain ranges and the Continental Divide. Within the tour, open ‘playground areas’ provide guests with an opportunity to freely experience the backcountry on their own.
If joining Nova’s morning half-day or full-day Top of the Rockies guided tour, you will be treated to an inclusive, made-to-order lunch served at McAllister’s Grill at the Lodge at Camp Hale. Here you can relax and warm yourself fireside, while enjoying a hot chocolate before heading back to your hotel.
“We went on a guided snowmobiling trip with Nova Guides. They did everything right to the point where it would be difficult to ask for more. Our guide, Jason, picked us up from our hotel and drove us to their Lodge. The snowmobiles are brand new and Jason let us pace ourselves based on where we wanted to spend more time clicking pictures. We saw some amazing views and covered a number of different mountain peaks. Jason turned out to be the perfect guide! We had a lot of fun and will definitely end up going with Nova Guides on our next trip to CO. Highly recommended!”
Tigiwon Tours
For a shorter tour, Nova Guides offers Tigiwon Tours, also just 15 minutes from Vail or Beaver Creek. These two-hour guided tours are perfect if you’re looking for a great snowmobile experience without sacrificing a day on the slopes. Their professional guides take great care of everyone from pickup to drop-off.
Starting at approximately 8,500 feet, you’ll meander through beautiful tree-lined trails up to 10,500 feet with outstanding views of Notch Mountain, the historic ghost town of Gilman, and Vail’s Back Bowls. In the midst of this mountainside adventure, guests are treated to a hot beverage (hot chocolate or cider) within the comfort of a backcountry yurt.
“We had a great time on Nova Guides' two hour Tigiwon snowmobile tour. The staff was courteous and helpful when making reservations and our guide, Gary, took us on a great ride! We also rented a cabin up at Camp Hale and found it quite cozy, comfortable, and reasonably priced. We look forward to going again sometime.”
Cabins and Unguided Snowmobile Rentals
The Pando Cabins, located a short walking distance to the Lodge at Camp Hale, are also operated by Nova Guides. These beautiful log cabins each have two bedrooms, a full bath, kitchen, fireplace and gorgeous views of the surrounding peaks.
Nestled amongst the pines, there is a plethora of trails right outside the front door. In addition to guided snowmobile tours, Nova also offers unguided snowmobile rentals.
Nova will provide detailed operating and safety instructions, along with a map of the area so you can explore the White River National Forest on your own. Go for as little as an hour or up to a full day (eight-hour rental) and enjoy lunch at McAllister’s Grill seven days a week.
Cabin guests can rent equipment and leave right from their front door! These cabins are an affordable lodging option for those looking for a place to stay that’s off the beaten path.
Nova’s year-round guides are highly qualified and ready to provide you with the experience of a lifetime! As you enjoy the beauty and splendor of the Rockies up close and personal, Nova Guides is sure to provide a safe and extraordinary experience that you'll never forget.
