Eagle Hosts the Pink Colorado Event - One of Many Fun Summer Events in the Vail Valley

Come Join Us for a Fun, Worthwhile Summer Activity in Eagle, Colorado!

A contest that brings together 27 exceptional photos submitted from across Colorado will unveil its giant, town-wide exhibition at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday June 23, 2011 in Eagle.

Thursday’s unveiling marks the public launch of the Shaw Cancer Center’s Pink Colorado Event, a one-of-a-kind campaign to raise awareness about pre-menopausal breast cancer in Colorado. The unveiling includes a public tour of Eagle, beginning at Mountain Pedaler Bike Shop on Broadway, to view the 27 building-sized photos mounted on walls and roofs throughout the town and concludes with a ceremony at the Dusty Boot to recognize the Colorado photographers whose work was selected to represent the campaign. The purchase of certain wines and beer from places all over Eagle County during the evening will help raise money for Colorado breast cancer research.

The Shaw Cancer Center’s Pink Colorado Event began in March with a statewide competition of photos displaying an element of “pink,” which netted over 300 total contest submissions. It continues all summer, from June 23 to September 16, with the giant, town-wide display of the 27 finalist photos, plus a special display from youth photographers at the Dusty Boot and Luigi’s Pasta House. Throughout the summer, a calendar featuring the finalists’ photos will be available for sale, and the profits will be donated to the University of Colorado Cancer Center and the Aspen affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. At the end of the summer, one grand prize winner will be decided by a Viewer’s Choice Award, in which voters will pay $1 per vote, which will also be donated for this valuable research.

The photos unveiled in Eagle this Thursday were selected as contest finalists by a panel of notable Coloradans that included Anne Trujillo, the Emmy-winning news journalist, John Fielder, the famed wildlife photographer, Chris Anthony, the world-renowned skier and Warren Miller film star, Kelly Liken, of Restaurant Kelly Liken and a “Top Chef” and “Iron Chef” contestant, and Peggy Carey, the Vice President of Oncology at the Shaw Cancer Center.
