Vail, Beaver Creek Win Bid to Host 2015 FIS World Alpine Ski Championships

After week-long presentations in Turkey, Vail and Beaver Creek clinched the bid to host the 2015 FIS World Alpine Ski Championships.
Local resident and Olympic gold medalist Lindsay Vonn was reported to have supported the bid with a recorded video. Vail and Beaver Creek representatives traveled to Turkey and made their official pitch on Tuesday, which went very well, according to Vail Valley Foundation officials.
Beaver Creek and Vail Resorts beat out St. Moritz, Switzerland, and Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy.
In winning the bid, the Vail Valley will host the event for the first time in 16 years, the last time being in 1999 at Beaver Creek. Other US ski resorts to have hosted the event include Aspen, Squaw Valley, and Lake Placid.
Local Vail Valley residents greatly look forward to hosting the event, not only to support local Lindsay Vonn (who has unofficially agreed to stay around for the event) and international athletes, but to encourage a much needed economic boost.

Congrats and thank you to all the people that made this possible!
