Most anglers ignore the most obvious piece of fly fishing equipment. It's as obvious as the cheap corner store glasses on the end of your nose.

When discussing sunglasses in a fly shop the conversation typically focuses on the ability to spot fish.  Polarized lenses provide clarity and contrast, making fish on area rivers and saltwater flats appear glaringly obvious.

Yes they make your quarry "pop", but your mother would be happy to hear that you're wearing the fishing industry's version of safety goggles.  A good set of glasses (plastic or actual glass lenses) offer UV ray protection, hook protection, absorb glare and reduce eye fatigue and strain.

In other words they keep you looking younger, fashionable and keep the doctor away (emergency room, plastic surgeon (less crow's feat), opthamologist or otherwise). They also keep the fashion police at bay, so the next time you have trouble seeing the fish, give some thought to investing in the most valuable piece of gear you can have in your arsenal.
