HILARIOUS POLITICAL SATIRE GROUP THE CAPITOL STEPS RETURN TO THE VILAR CENTER ON MARCH 9

VAIL, Colorado—The Capitol Steps, political humorists that have made a more-than-a-quarter-century career of side-splitting song parodies, skits and satirical humor, return to the Vilar Performing Arts Center (VPAC) in Beaver Creek on Tuesday, March 9 at 7:30pm.
Global economic crises are such a downer, aren’t they? But they sure make good fodder for satire—along with international dust-ups, foot-in-mouth moments and corrupt governors. The Capitol Steps were born at a Senate staff Christmas party in 1981. Inspired by incumbent president and one-time Hollywood actor Richard Nixon, a group of Senate staffers determined that if entertainers could become politicians, then politicians could become entertainers. What has since emerged is a special brand of satirical humor that has played to audiences from Peoria to Pennsylvania Avenue.
No matter who is currently featured in the headlines, The Capitol Steps are equal opportunity offenders promising an evening full of bipartisan lampooning. Recent material from the troupe includes the media's love affair with the Nation's 44th President Barack Obama ("Obamamia"), Illinois Governor Blagojevich's attempted sale of the Senate seat ("Come Buy With Me") and North Korean leader Kim Jong Il singing show tunes ("How Do You Solve a Problem Like Korea?").
The Capitol Steps have recorded 29 albums, including their latest, Barackin' Around the Christmas Tree and Obama Mia! They've been featured on NBC, CBS, ABC, and PBS, and can be heard four times a year on National Public Radio stations nationwide during their “Politics Takes a Holiday” radio specials.
“You have watched ‘Saturday Night Live’ and you tune in to Comedy Central every night for ‘The Daily Show’ and ‘The Colbert Report.’ But when it comes to satire, you haven't seen the real thing until you have been to ‘The Capitol Steps’,” wrote The Washington Post.
The Capitol Steps have established themselves as VPAC audience favorites and return to Beaver Creek with brand new material for another evening of hilarity.
Tickets for The Capitol Steps are $50 and are available online at www.vilarpac.org, by calling 888.920.ARTS(2787) or in person at the box office in Beaver Creek.

"Forecast models indicate Vail should have an active March and April"

By Reid Griebling

March 2, 2010 —  Spring like weather in the Rockies has arrived with valley temps well in 40's and on mountain temps in the 30's. As March foxtrots in with clear skies and high pressure building, only the naive will be duped to think that tank-tops, and road bikes should be dusted off.

As March is normally our snowiest month, winter weather will be seen as soon as Thursday, March, 4th as a weak disturbance will move through the Western Slope.

Southwest winds will bring in our next system during the day Thursday with snow showers increasing over night. This system doesn't seem to have the gusto we're looking for, but the trajectory is favorable for the central and northern mountains.

Expect snow totals to be light (1-3 inches) with a slight chance of favorable dynamics to give some areas more than 5 inches.

Tis' the season that temperatures will fluctuate dramatically as overnight lows can still reach the teens and single digits, with daytime temps reaching over 50 degrees in the valley floors.

Models do show that we could have a very active March and April, but for now, we'll just settle with warm temps, longer days, and even longer waits at the car wash.

Enjoy!!
